We are delighted to hear of Knight & Carver’s acquisition of BAE Systems Ship Repair’s dry dock Diligence for use on your site. Because of its size and capabilities, this dry dock is of paramount importance to the museum’s ongoing capacity of caring for its historic fleet of vessels, as well as an important resource for the regional maritime industry.

Dry dock Diligence is currently the only facility of appropriate size in our region that could take the Star of India. This is also true for our other historic vessels, including the 1904 steam yacht Medea, 1898 ferry Berkeley and USS Dolphin AGSS 556, the U.S. Navy’s last diesel-electric submarine and one of the deepest diving and most important exploration ships in history.

O ne of the popular attractions ever offered along San Diego’s Embarcadero returns this year. Presented by the Maritime Museum and the Port of San Diego, Festival of Sail 2010 will feature several dozen magnificent tall ships for boarding and public display. More than 250,000 visitors are expected. If you love boats and the lore of the high seas, we urge you to make plans to attend
